Our Story
How They Matched
Roger and Jamee matched on Hinge and quickly discovered they were cut from the same cloth — bonded by a shared love of old houses, towering trees, time spent in Germany, ambitious home projects, and a heart for outreach in the KC community. Their first date at First Fridays was spent trading aguas frescas back and forth while they walked around appreciating local art.
A Year of Dating
Their first year together was anything but boring. From completely gutting and reimagining Roger’s kitchen, to renting a mini excavator to install drainage at Jamee’s, they discovered early on that they make an exceptional team. In between the sawdust and blueprints, they snuck in ski trips and lake weekends with friends, and even traveled together for work — including a trip to Germany, where Roger got to show off his second language to an appreciative audience of one. Jamee said “I love you” first in a way he would especially cherish: by stamping it permanently into wet concrete. Roger has kept it proudly displayed at his house ever since.
A Hawaii Hike and Proposal 🌺
During their trip to Hawai’i the couple set out to take on the Olomana Mountain Trail on O’ahu — a hike with a reputation as thrilling (and dangerous) as it is breathtaking. After saying he wanted to “take all risks in life together,” Roger got down on one knee at the summit of the first peak. Jamee, of course, said yes.
The Ceremony & Celebration 🌺
Jamee and Roger will exchange vows at an intimate weeknight ceremony at the historic Pilgrim Chapel in Kansas City. The celebration continues the following Saturday with a laid-back Hawaiian-themed party at Black Hoof Park in Lenexa.
